QUESTION:
For civil works contracts, when is admeasurement (unit price) or lump sum contract used?
ANSWER:
It depends on the type of works and would require experienced engineering judgement to chose the appropriate method. Well-defined construction (such as a standard building typically use lump sum contracts. Works that are not well defined at the time of contracting, such as road works, or perhaps drainage works, more typically follow unit price contracts. The standard bidding documents for small works (typically lump sum), and for works (typically unit price), provide additional guidance.
